Chinese Bi disc in Jade - Hand made reproductions
The Bi (Pi) disks are made from jade.
These were in use around 800 BC and were precise instruments of measure. Some were designed and used to help navigate ships by the stars. Other Pi disks were placed as pillows underneath the heads of the dearly departed to protect their journey into the other world.
The earliest examples are undecorated and date from the Neolithic age (10,000 BC onward), while later examples become more highly decorated. Although not known for sure, they are assumed to represent symbols of the sun or of heaven.
They are all hand carved and made from real Jade.
They come in several designs, each one is different.
